It’s that time of year again. Time to start shopping for a swim suit. Some of us avoid the experience all together, some just plain dread it and others … I guess, they some how make it out of the dressing room alive!
It is a miracle that we make it through the store and then by the pool. But we do it!
Through the giant cloud of gloom, I have dissected different body types to guide you in your swimwear purchases. I have also provided various helpful tips. So put a smile on that sad face. There is hope!
If you are Busty…
Look for tops that give support just like a bra does. Some women think they don’t need padding for the top. However, once they have worn a controlled top, they feel more secure in their appearance. Halter tops with thick straps are the best bikini tops to wear. Also, a wide band underneath the bust-line keeps things in place. A solid dark color worn on top diverts attention and minimizes.

Be cautious when purchasing string bikinis! They do not give you the support you need up top. String bikini bottoms can be flattering but keep the strings below the waistline. No ruffles or big patterns on top! Also, bandeau swimsuits give little support for the busty area.
If you are Full & Curvy…

Check the fabric content. Is it made with 18% or more of spandex? When you select controlled fabric, your curvy shape is supported from bottom to top. Hipsters are very flattering for the lower body and they hit right at the right place. Halter tops and bra-cuts give great support. Long-top tankinis control the entire upper portion.

A shirred one-piece can minimize a full figure. Look for asymmetrical shirring that draws the eye in other than horizontal shirring.

The pink suit above is a bandeau style with a supported top. Most bandeau suits do not control the bust area; however, they are available just hard to find.

Don’t wear anything too baggy. Throw out the granny-style skirt suits. A bandeau suit that does not support the upper portion of the body.
Horizontal stripes maximize problem areas.
If you are Pear Shape…

Find lighter tops and pair with darker bottoms. Purchase bikinis or one-pieces with wide-set straps to disguise a small upper frame. As shown above, V-bottoms also minimize hips.

Bandeau swimsuits are an excellent choice to wear especially if it’s a one-piece. Bandeau styles vary from two-piece to one-piece. They also offer some with thin straps.
To make your butt look it’s best, try wearing less coverage on the bottom. More fabric may work against you. By revealing more of your cheek, you flatter this area of concern.

Stay away from super-high cut legs. No vertical stripes for the bottom half. You may think you are covering up when you wear boy shorts but you are not. You are bringing more attention to your butt and enlarging it. The boy shorts cut you body in half and does not allow your body to elongate. Showing a little more cheek is more appropriate.

If you are Tall & Slim…
For upper portion, choose halter tops in lighter shades or with fun ruffles. To curve your waist, contrast the top piece with the bottom. Look for prints, ruffles and other cute details that add shape.

Boy Shorts work best for your narrow figure by giving more shape.
To create a waistline, wear any kind of two-piece. A Mono-kini also creates a waistline. It has the sides cut out of a one piece which allows the eye to draw in.

Fortunately, there isn’t a whole lot you can’t wear. You mainly want to stay away from solid black one pieces. Have fun with your swimwear.
If you are Petite…

Halter tops draw the eye up and enhance the bust. Shop for allover patterns and string bikinis. The side-cut out one-pieces are perfect for your figure. Love these!

Throw-out the little girl swimsuits. Show off those womanly curves!
If you are Curvy Petite…

When it comes to swimwear, pay for quality. Invest in one that fits well and is made to last. Halter tops elongate and flatter the curves. Swim tops that include bra support are a must. A sweet heart neckline really plays up your feminine figure. Shop for suits with 18% or more in spandex. The extra spandex gives more support.
Also, mono-kinis are excellent for bringing in the waistline. Having fabric vertically work down the mid-section brings the eye up and in.

Don’t be ashamed of your curves. Marilyn Monroe had voluptuous curves and she is now known for being a sexy icon.
Careful when wearing a string bikini on top. Be sure the top of the suit is supportive.
How to Get the Perfect Fit
First ignore the size of the suit. It is important to concentrate on the how it looks on you. When shopping for a two piece, buy separates. I have never had much luck with a set. If the top fits, than the bottom is usually too big in most cases.
Think out side the Box
Do the unthinkable. Try on a suit you would never try on. You may be surprised. It may actually look great on you.
Shop Online
Consider Shopping Online as an Alternative. If you hate that strong lighting in the store dressing rooms and unhelpful salespeople, you may want to shop for swimwear from the privacy of your own home. Most online stores have great customer service, but always check their return policy before you buy swimsuits.
