Transition From Girl to Lady, Part 2

Following up on Libbey Graham’s shopping day after being consulted by me, Jaylynn Perkins, her personal shopper. The shopping day was long but productive. Below are just some of the outfits we settled on to jump-start her transition into adulthood.

Because of her age, Libbey does not have all the basic pieces in her closet that every woman should have. Such as your A-line black skirt, fitted khaki and black pants, tailor suit, etc. This being said I had to start fresh.

Black Signature Blazer with Lace top

Above Libbey is wearing a Lace Top from DressYourBodyType.com and Black Signature Blazer as a layer. We paired this with black straight leg pants, flats and a chunky bracelet.

Purple Plaid Shirt with Waist Belt

Libbey was very helpful in letting me know what she liked and what she did not. She expressed her concern of standing out amongst the crowd and we went from there. Picking out colors that are more anti-attention getters.

Deep, bold colors like royal blue and dark purple look great up against Libbey’s fair skin. So for the outfit above, I decided to put her in a button-up purple, plaid top. The deep purple mixed with plaid gives her an edgy side; yet, placing the belt at the waist gives a needed feminine touch. This is also paired with a chunky bracelet and straight leg pants.

After shopping all day at local stores and rummaging through the DressYourBodyType closet, Libbey and I felt we had accomplished the success of a new wardrobe and a new identity.

From the selections, I believe we reached our goal. I am so proud of our soon to be graduate!

Transition from Girl to Lady, Part 1

So, tonight I sat down with, 18 year old, Libbey Graham who will soon graduate from high school this coming spring. We discussed her transition into adulthood and how important it is to define your style during these difficult times.

Women go through many changes in their lifetime. Each time, it is important to examine not only your idenity but your closet.

Libbey is about to enter into one of the first transitions most of us go through. College Life! As most know or will know, this is a confusing time. However, I believe that if you enter full force with a well put together, identity driven outfit, you will be ahead of the game.

To accomplish this, Libbey and I gathered magazine clippings to see what looks caught our eyes. Most importantly, I was looking for figure flattering pieces. Since, she is a pear shape this was crucial to getting the right look.

Libbey was simply looking for what she liked. We had also discussed the image she wanted the world to see. We agreed that a more trendy yet sophisticated approach would be best for a high school graduate. The cute tees and any thing too pink would have to go.

After looking through the images, we prioritized the shopping list.
