Cool & Casual!

August 15th, 2010

Stay cool and casual for the rest of the summer with this button-up silk romper!

Button-up Silk Romper

Features Front pockets

The taupe Romper features two front and two back pockets, cuffed hems and a belted waist on bottom half. The upper half of the romper can be buttoned up and the short sleeves are cluffed.

Cute Back View

I really like the back side of the romper. It’s pretty roomy but fitted enough to flatter your curves. Some romper show a little too much skin, but I believe this romper covers enough yet shows enough. The length of the shorts are just right.  I recommend this piece for Petite, Tall & Slim, Busty, Curvy Petite and Full & Curvy figures.  For shorter and small frames, I suggest strapping on a wedge with a heel. This will elongate those legs and the rest of your body. Pair with fun, bright accessories and you are set for all those end of summer parties.

Importance of Undergarments, Part 1

June 15th, 2010

“A newspaper reported that I spent $30,000 a year buying Paris clothes and that women hate me for it. I couldn’t spend that much unless I wore sable underwear.” – Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis

bigstockphoto_Lingerie_Shop_2362138

Are you wearing the right undergarments much less are you wearing any at all?

I am going to take on this needed topic of underwear and the importance of it and I will break it down for those who need to know. Since, the subject is so board I will break it down into parts. So stay tuned…

First and foremost, Pay Attention to your underwear. Think practical when picking out undergarments. Lingerie is fun to shop for especially the cute and sexy pieces. However, be conservative. Think about what you wear everyday to the office. Smooth panties and a fitted bra will do more for your figure than anything you put over it.

The Right Bra

So what is the right bra? There is so many to choice from. So many different options. It’s overwhelming!

The T-Shirt Bra from MySkins.com The T-Shirt Bra from MySkins.com

Everyday use:

For everyday use, I recommend smooth and silky bras. This fabric is practical for all tops. Save the pretty lacy ones for after hours. Usually, the lace shows through.

#1 rule: Invest in several nude colored bras. When deciding which bra to wear with your white blouse, always wear a bra that is the same color as your skin tone. This will ensure an invisible undergarment. Check out Myskins.com to get the perfect shade for you skin tone.

Balcony Bra from Big Girls Bras

Small Bust: To make the most of a small bust, try a balcony style bra, with or without padding. This can give you an enhanced neckline, excellent uplift, and a lovely, curvy shape. Half-cup bras also flatter a smaller bust; padding at the sides and under the bust give maximum lift. Avoid bras that have square-cut bust lines; they’ll flatten you even more.

Other styles for petite figures are Bralette, Contour Wire Free, Major Push-up.

Where to Shop

Women have been telling me, “It is so hard to find pretty lingerie without going into the kids section.” Most local department stores do not have a wide variety to choose from. However, listed below, you may find these websites to be helpful in your quest to get a nice bra for your petite frame.

Bralette from LulaLu.com

Bralette from LulaLu.com

Lulalu.com specializes in petite lingerie. They have bralettes, demi-cups, sports bras and so on.

TheLittlebracompany.com also specializes in lingerie for small breasted women.

IttyBittybra.com – Their motto is Itty Bitty & Proud!

Urban Outfitters has a unique assortment of Bralettes to choose from.

Medium to Large Bust

Seamless Minimizer from Wacoal-America.com

Medium to Large Bust: For women with larger busts, wider shoulder and back straps give firm support. Full cups contain the breast better and give a better appearance. Underwired bras provide better support under the bust. Smooth, plain bra styles, without too much lace, help to make your bust appear smaller.

Contour Underwire

Demi-cups provide more sex appeal by giveing breasts a boost. Only wear this bra with button down tops. Do not wear with t-shirts. The bra can cut you in half when it shows through the top. Add bronzer to the decolletage and claevage to provide a glow.

A Minimizer is the best bra for large breasts that need lots of support. It gives full coverage without altering shape and prevents uni-boob.

Sport Underwire from Wacoal

Sport Underwire from Wacoal

Sports Bras with Molded Cups – The molded cup keeps the uni-boob at bay. It supports the breasts yet allows curves to show. The Sport Underwire from Wacoal (shown above) is the perfect sports bar. Without underwire is another option. Sizes go up to DDD.

Where to Shop

Because the average American women is a 34C and above, most local department stores provide great quality bras for the larger sizes. Macy’s and Nordstrom’s have an assortment of highly recommended bras to choose from. The department stores have  Professional bra fitters to measure you. After measurements are taken, they will find an assortment of bras to choose from.

Full Coverage Bra from Natori.com

Full Coverage Bra from Natori.com

Natori.com offers a perfected foundation to wear underneath you clothing.

Wacoal - The intimate apparel brand is known for its superior quality and fit.

The Lingerie Store sells bras designed for breast implants.

Big Girl Bras provides DDs on up to cup size H.

How-to Fit the Bra

measurements

Usually, you can go to your local department store and a trained sales representative can assist you in fitting the right bra to your shape. However,  below, I have broken down steps on how-to-measure yourself.

Step 1:

Measure around the top of your ribs, right where your breasts meet your ribcage. Pull the tape tight around your back. Add five inches to this measurement, and you have the number part of your bra size. (So if your ribcage measures 29 inches, you’re a size 34.)

Now run the tape measure from the inside of your sternum (right between the breasts) to just outside the edge of one breast. Four inches roughly equals an A cup: five inches, a B cup; six inches , a C; and so on.

Step2: Try on Everything

Even when you know your correct size, don’t just pull a bra off the rack and buy it. Bra cuts vary wildly, and their tags don’t include subtle info like”full side cup” or “broader” through the back.” These are the little differences that make one bra fit perfectly and another not.

Step3: Check the fit

In a well-fitting bra, your breasts will completely fill the cups (in soft cups, check the tip, especially: in mold bras, be sure that the top of the cups are filled out.) Cups should hug the outer edges of your breasts, and the back band should be anchored under the lowest part of your shoulder blades. Last of all, the short piece of fabric between the breast should lie flat against your body.

The straps should not be too tight. If you are unable to place two fingers in between the shoulder and the strap, your strap is too tight.

Other Tips that Matter:

  • The cup should completely contain the breast with the exception of push-up bras and demi-wire styles.
  • The breast should not spill over the top or sides of the cup. This indicates that the cup may be too small.
  • The cups fit smoothly. Gaps or puckering indicate that the cups are too large.
  • The bra should be snug but not too tight around the body.
  • The back of the bra should stay down and not ride up on the back. This indicates a large band size. Try one band size smaller.
  • The center of the bra should lie flat against the breastbone. Otherwise, the cups may be too small. Try a larger cup size or a different style.
  • The straps should be adjusted to support comfortably without pressure or cutting.
  • Don’t Go Overboard -Careful with the push up or enhancing bras. These can easily create an unnatural look.

Embroidery & Lace

May 26th, 2010

When you combined pretty embroidery and simple lace, it truly makes a statement especially on a maxi dress. I guess maxi dresses have decided to stick around for a little while longer. I am cheering them on. I really love the long dresses. They twist the sun dress concept a bit and give a more relaxed style.

tn_browndress in woods

The maxi dress is less complicated when it comes to body types compared to other pieces. If you are under 5’3″, I recommend hemming any maxi you find but only if the length bothers you. However, this rule is not set in stone. Depending on the look of the dress, hemming is not necessary. Such as the dress above, it is free and easy. With no fuss.

Did I tell you how much I loved the embroidery and lace?

The turquoise tunic is another option for embroidery and lace. It is so fresh and airy. Perfect for a walk on the beach as the sun goes down.

New Arrivals that Elongate…

May 10th, 2010

I am loving the new arrivals this season. Take a look at some more of my favorites.

tn_Picture 1107

The Lady Face Top features a sheer leopard fabric that frames the pretty face of a lady.  The leopard fabric elongates the upper body because it is vertical to the body. The top appears to be two layers but is actually one piece attached. Having a lighter color in between the black fabric also allows the body to length. This is why the lady face top is a favorite of mine.

The trendy sketch mixed with the style of the top provides a more sophisticated approach. A woman can easily wear this top and not feel like she is trying to dress younger than she needs to.

tn_1128-2

The Plum Multi-Ruffle Top with its trendy design makes a great work or after work blouse. The top comes in at the waist softly defining the silhouette.

I recommend Pear shape and Full & Curvy figures wear this top. The multiple ruffles balance out a voluptuous bottom half. And because the blouse comes in at the waist, a full & curvy figure has a more defined mid-section.

New Arrivals for Spring/Summer 2010

April 25th, 2010

Spring is here! I don’t know about you but I am really loving all the bright colors this season.  For the new arrivals, I have picked out one of my favorites for the season.

Blue Hand Painted Leopard Vest

This beautiful vest has a different artistic originality that cannot be achieved or imitated with industrialized machine prints. It is considered a piece of art.

tn_Picture 1045

I recommend this vest for all body types. The long scarf design elongates the body and slightly tames the curves. For petite figures or anyone under 5’4″, I suggest wearing heels when you dress this vest up for an evening event.

 tn_Picture 1046

The fabric has a slight simmer to it especially in the sunlight.

tn_Picture 1040

Pair the hand painted piece with white pants and you have something to wear to that luncheon with the ladies.

Visit us again soon for other styling techniques and ways to flatter your unique shape. Remember it’s all about proportion control!

How to Downplay Broad Shoulders

April 22nd, 2010

Overly broad shoulders are difficult to disquise. However, you can learn to accentuate the positive and play down the negative. Following a few simple techniques and understanding what to shop for can limit your frustrations. So, I have decided to zero in on Broad Shoulders and Narrow Lower Body Types for my readers.

kate_hudson

Kate Hudsen - She does a great job dressing for the red carpet.

Jennifer Garner

Jennifer Garner

Celebrities like Kate Hudsen and Jennifer Garner have wide shoulders. From recent pictures taken, I feel they are doing a great job proportioning their shoulders with their narrow frame. If you have broard shoulders, I suggest following the styles of these public figures and incorporating it into your own wardrobe.

What To shop for?

1. Sleeves.

To soften your shoulders, choose tops with kimono, raglan,  sleeves or bat sleeves which have a tendency to disguise broad shoulders. Stay away from puffy sleeves and shoulder pads at all costs. Look for blousy sweaters.

2. Necklines

Tops with V necks tend to downplay the look of wide shoulders. The deeper or more vertical the V, the more narrow your shoulders will appear. Avoid wearing high scooped, boatneck tops, or tops with rounded or square necks if you have broad shoulders. However, deep or narrow, scoop necklines draw the eye away from the shoulder area.

V-Neck Bubble Blouse

V-Neck Bubble Blouse

Sweater Featuring Dolman Sleeve

Sweater Featuring Dolman Sleeve

Wear vertical stripes up top, which downplay the appearance of full shoulders. Avoid horizontal stripes up top.

Choose jackets that have no details. Look for very narrow lapels and avoid pleats.

3. Waistline

Become aware of the triangle created by your shoulders and waist, and dress accordingly. Nipped-in and cinched waists will make your shoulders look bigger in comparison.

Find jackets that fall to the hip instead of the waist.

Avoid empire waistlines which draw the attention to the the bust and shoulders

Wide belts are not a good match either.

4. Other Tips and Techniques

Soften the shoulders and make the body appear longer and leaner overall by wearing an entire outfit that’s all the same color. Darker clothing on top will also help achieve this look.

Wear a hairdo that lifts your center of visual interest. Short hair that doesn’t hit the shoulders is a good choice.

Emphasize your hips to add balance. Wear clothing that subtly emphasizes your hips for added balance. Horizontal stripes on a skirt or pants can be effective as can wearing a light colored bottom with a darker top.

Avoid boxy styles and anything that fits tightly across the bustline or shoulders. Longer garments with simple lines work better as do loose fitting soft form styles that drape the body with lightweight fabrics.

busty

When it comes to the Busty, the Tall & Slim, the Full & Curvy, Curvy Petite and so on, it can be difficult to determine which body type you are.  I recommend combining and referring to the Tall&Slim and Busty figures for further guidance if you are tall with broad shoulders. If you are under 5’4″, combine Busty and Petite body types.

New 12 Way Convertible Dress & Skirt

March 31st, 2010

The new 12 way Convertible Dress is super versatile. This dress can be wrapped, tied and pulled to suit your unique body type. Most of the options create an hour glass shape. Below the waist, the dress remains an A-line style which flatters every shape.

Below is a video that demonstrates 12 Ways to wear the Convertible Dress and Skirt. Click on the side images to view the different options.

tn_SL5000-6

This option is the most flattering for all body types. I, highly, recommend it for Full & Curvy, Curvy Petite, Pear shape and Busty. The way it is tied around the waist really brings out the curves of a woman creating a subtle yet effective hourglass shape.

tn_SL5000-8

This dress is so great. It really gives so many different options. For the option above, a Pear shape will benefit the most. Having the wide sleeves gives the illusion of a more balanced proportion.

tn_SL5000-9

Tall & Slim figures can use this wrapping option. It will pull in the waist and provide an hour glass shape. Dresses with detailing above or around the waist add femininity and flatter a straight frame.

tn_SL5000-5

Petite body types will love this option the Convertible dress provides. Showing more leg lengthens a petite figure.

tn_SL5000-4

This strapless option works well on a Curvy Petite figure. Having the V shaped neckline elongates a more voluptuous figure.

tn_SL5000-11

The Convertible Dress can also be used as a skirt. Being an A-line, the skirt option is very flattering on any body type.
